Pasadena, CA - William Leeper Crain, Jr., 92, died peacefully on November 9, 2025 at his home in Pasadena, CA, shared with his partner of 34 years, Kate Bartlett. Bill was born in Chicago on October 21, 1933. He graduated from Southwest High School in KC (1951), and from the University of Kansas (1957) after serving in the United States Marine Corps (1953-1955). Bill worked for Cargill Corp and Control Data before settling into a career as a realtor in Minneapolis for 35 years (Bermel Smaby and Great Minneapolis). After retiring in 1992, Bill traveled thousands of miles on his bicycle (that's a lot of pedaling!), and on downhill and cross-country skis. He and Kate enjoyed five-5,000+ mile road trips around the U.S. (mostly tent camping) and trips to Europe, Africa and South America. Bill and Kate moved to Pasadena in 2019 to be close to Kate's children, Aaron (Grecia) Ames and Nora (Joe Kausch) Ames and grandchildren (Isaac and Ana Ames and Connor Kausch). In Pasadena, Bill was beloved by his Pasadena Duplicate Bridge Club and at the Fitness Center of the Pasadena Senior Center. He continued to read voraciously and became a big LA Dodgers fan! Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Margeurite (Rice) Crain, and father, William Leeper Crain, brother, Charles Crain, and sisters, Marian Stewart and Sybil Anderson. In addition to Kate, her children and grandchildren, Bill is survived by his daughter, Margot (George) Ninemire, granddaughter, Jennifer McMaster, and great-grandchildren Alexis Thompson and Colton (Carolee) Thompson (expecting Bill's great-great-grandchild), as well as stepchildren Wendy Parisky, Nancy Cleveland and Gunnar Oas.
