Shorewood, MN - Virginia "Ginny" (Eide) Ewald of Shorewood, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025, at age 90. Mom "stuck the landing." She lived in mostly good health and was proud to be the first in her family to reach 90. This fall she celebrated her 90th birthday with family, enjoyed White Christmas at Chanhassen Dinner Theatres with her children and their spouses, and spent Christmas surrounded by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She then left us to be reunited with Doug.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, Thorleif and Margaret Eide; her sisters, Norma and Peggy; her brothers, Richard and Philip; her grandchildren Michael, Dane, Espen, and Jeffrey; and her husband, Douglas Ewald (d. October 2021).
Ginny graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1953 and attended the University of Minnesota. She met Doug—"in the Band-Aid closet" at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Minneapolis—and they were married in September 1958. They shared 63 wonderful years together.
She is survived by her children: David (Susan), Carol (Bryan), William (Roxanne), Tom (Joe), Richard (Polly), and Eric; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and her brother Paul, sisters Kathy and Mary and many additional relatives. Beyond her family, Ginny leaves behind many friends and acquaintances whose lives were better for her steady interest and care.
Special thanks to her friends and the staff at Shorewood Landing for providing a fun, supportive, friend-filled home during the last two years of her life.
A memorial service will be held Friday, January 30, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Excelsior, Minnesota. Visitation begins at 10:00 am, with the service at 11:00 am, followed by lunch.
Memorials are preferred to the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in her name.
