Mpls, MN - Victoria D'Amour McCarthy, 79 Minneapolis. Died peacefully in Abbott Hospital, after a short but severe respiratory illness, surrounded by her loving husband Jim, family and friends, on Sunday, April 26. Her presence was a gift of personality, humanity, affection and humor. Her untimely absence leaves an immeasurable chasm in the hearts of her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Mary (Wilzbacher). She had three siblings: Bill (Valjean), Kerry and Chef Glenn (Nancy). She attended Duluth's Holy Rosary grade school, Stanbrook Hall and Duluth East High Schools and the University of Minnesota Duluth. She had several health services jobs in the 70's. While working for ten years at Eberhart Realty in the late 80's she returned to the University of Minnesota to finish her degree. It is a testament to her persistence and Jim's support that, while working full time, she received a BA Degree in elementary education. After completing her student teaching, Vicky decided that teaching wasn't her pleasure. She then went to work for Keystone Retaining Walls as an Administrative Assistant retiring from Keystone in 2018.

Jim & Vicky met in 1982 and married in 1985. Vicky loved Jim's children: Nicole, Jamie and Erin. Vicky had a vivacious personality enjoyed by family and friends. Her main joy and contribution in life was being a blended family surrogate mother to children from her brief marriage to Charlie Dean and, for the last forty plus years, to her loving "daughter" Nicole and Jim's son Jaime (Jessica) and daughter Erin. Nothing brought her more happiness than being surrounded by the whole gang: grandchildren Alex (Allie), Yosi & Sophie, Jake, Cameron, Madison, Allie, and great grandchildren, Parker and Blake, Jim's brothers John and Mac (Tawn), sister Katie and their children. Vicky was a remarkable cook whose holiday and dinner parties were memorable and frequent. She, Jim and Nicole were especially well regarded for their beautifully orchestrated Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner celebrations.

Celebration of Life held at 103 Rustic Lodge W, Minneapolis, MN 55419, Saturday June 6, 2026, from 1-4 pm. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Wire Fox Terrier Midwest. Vicky would love you for that.
