Valborg (Vollie, Val) Nelsine Nelson Molin
Valborg Nelsine Nelson Molin age 91 was born March 2, 1934 on the family farm in Santiago, Minnesota to Nels H and Myrtle May (Ross) Nelson. The youngest of 16 children, Valborg (Vollie to her family) graduated from Princeton High School in 1952 and St. Cloud State College.
In 1956 Val married Dean Kenton Molin, one month after their first date. They were inseparable for 64 years until his death in 2021. Val taught elementary school for 34 years, one year each in Volga, SD, and Orono, the remaining in St. Louis Park. She earned a Master's Degree from the University of Minnesota.
In 2008 Val starred in "Mrs. Molin", a commercial for her former 4th grade student, Al Franken, in his successful run for U.S. Senate.
Val was a skilled artist with many hobbies, including sewing, quilting, needlework, collecting antiques, rosemaling, home decorating, gardening and watercolor painting. She was active in church St. Lucia dinners and quilting groups. Dean and Val traveled all over the world and spent many winters in Arizona. Her kindness, generosity and endless energy impacted countless lives of those who called her sister, aunt, teacher, and friend.
Val was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Gerhard, Howard, Tressman, Nordahl, Sherman, Joseph, and Ross; and sisters Gladys Christianson, Grace Stauffeneker, Norine Nelson, Murine Nelson, DeLoris Holler, Marie Hickman Berg, Loretta Jenson, and Helen Larson; and Dean in 2021. She is survived by sister-in-law Betty Schadeck and many, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Maple Plain on Wednesday, October 8 at 10:30 AM with visitation at 9:30 AM. Luncheon to follow. Interment at Ft. Snelling at 2:00 PM.
