St. Louis Park, Minnesota - Tom, 86, died on 2/26/2026 in St. Louis Park. Born on 3/4/1939, in Hallock, MN. Preceded in death by parents CP and Ella (Burns) Cannon, siblings Dale, Jerry, Donna, and Pat, and second wife Kathy. Survived by children, Lynne (Todd Hermann), Kevin, Heather, their mother, Donna, grandson Christopher, sister Colleen, sister-in-law Toni, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and special pet dog, Emmitt. In 1962, he earned a bachelor's degree and secondary teaching license in speech and social studies from Mankato State College. He first taught at Forest Lake and then Elmore. In 1970 in Caledonia, he focused his career on Special Learning and Behavioral Problems (SLBP) and earned that advanced certification from UW-La Crosse. From 1980 to 2000, he oversaw the growth of Alternative Education in Cannon Falls, Austin, Hutchinson, and Fridley. An avid outdoorsman and athlete, Tom completed 2 Birkebeiner XC ski races in WI and 8 full marathons. A celebration of his life will take place on Friday, 4/24/2026, at 2pm at Kapala-Glodek-Malone Funeral Home in New Hope, MN.
