Ontario, CA - Steven James Silver, 81, born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away on October 25, 2025, in Ontario, California. He moved to California in 1978.
A Jewish boxer from North Minneapolis, he competed in the Upper Midwest Golden Gloves throughout the 1960s, proudly wearing a Star of David on his trunks.
Over the course of 45 bouts and more than 130 rounds — including a brief professional period in 1969 — he earned a reputation for skill, grit, and heart. While attending the University of Minnesota, he was named Jewish Athlete of the Year by Hillel and received the Mercury Club Award for athletic achievement in 1965. Steve carried his love for boxing throughout his life, following the sport closely and remaining proud of his time in the ring.
He is survived by his daughters Dawn and Alondra; grandchildren Rachel (Elliot), Isabella, and Aiyana; great-grandchild Braxton; and siblings Terry, Noel (Gilda), and Geoffrey, and nieces and nephews.
