Edina, MN - Shirley Ann "Sandy" Young (née Newcomer), 94, of Edina, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025.

Born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, to Roger and Edith Newcomer, Sandy grew up on the lakes of Battle Creek — a self-described tomboy who climbed trees in summer and skated on the ice in winter. She attended Albion College before transferring to DePauw University, where she joined Pi Beta Phi and graduated with a major in Art and minors in Home Economics and Spanish.

After college, Sandy moved to Chicago for what she called her "glamour years," working in the traffic department of an advertising agency. There she met her future husband, Art. They married in 1954 and raised their two sons, Scott and John, first in Evanston, then Northfield and Northbrook, Illinois, before a job transfer brought the family to Edina — the place they would call home for the rest of their lives.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Sandy poured her creativity into needlepoint, and cooking and was a lifetime learner - there was nothing that didn't hold her interest. She was a longtime member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, which she joined in 1984. She loved a good English Tea with scones, bridge, travel, dinner parties, classical music, See's Chocolates, the birds in her garden, and ... always ... a good plate of cheese and crackers.

Sandy is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Art; her son, Scott; and her parents. She is survived by her son, John (Jacki); her daughter-in-law, Guyanna; her grandchildren, Spencer and Madeline (Junhwa); and her great-granddaughter, Juliette.

A celebration of Sandy's life will be held Saturday, May 23, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 4439 W 50th St, Edina, MN 55424. A casual luncheon will follow.
