Mpls, MN - Ruth Stureen (Hortelius) Sidhom

Passed away peacefully on Friday, April 26, 2025, at 8:30 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Careview Nursing Home in Minneapolis, at the age of 87.

Ruth was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and graduated from Washburn High School. She later earned her bachelor's degree in military history from Kansas State University. Throughout her life, Ruth pursued many passions — she worked as a florist before starting her career as a book buyer.

Ruth lived a full and vibrant life. She was an avid painter, pianist, jewelry maker, and floral arranger. She also volunteered for many years at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis, giving back to her community with dedication and care.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Sture A.W. Hortelius and Ruth Johnson Hortelius, and her brother, Ed "Bill" Hortelius.

Ruth is survived by her sister, Joanne, and her three children: David; Sam and his wife, Emily; and Amira and her husband, Lance. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Max and Stella.

Ruth will be remembered for her kindness, her artistic spirit, thoughtful debates, and her enduring love for her family and community.

Ruth will be laid to rest at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, with a graveside service held on Monday, May 19th at 3pm. All who knew Ruth are welcome to attend.
