Rowland John Davis (Roy) Obituary
Coal Creek, CO - Roy (Rowland) Davis, 56, of Coal Creek, Colorado, formerly of Wayzata, Eden Prairie and Waconia, passed away on September 20, 2025 on a beautiful mountainside near his home surrounded by loved ones after a courageous two year battle with ALS.
Roy is survived by his wife of 30 years, Amy; daughters Allison Davis and Rachel (Dylan) Salrin; grandson Wells Rowland Salrin; brother Robert (Robbie) Davis; sisters Tracy (Peter) Howard, Wendy (Peter) Dieser, and Laurie Henger; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jill Davis of Tonka Bay.
Born in New York, Roy spent most of his childhood in Wayzata, MN, and attended St. John's Military Academy as well as Wayzata and Minnetonka High Schools. Roy earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Purdue University and was an enthusiastic Boilermaker fan. He completed his Master's in Cybersecurity from Western Governors University. Roy enjoyed a successful career that began in software development and culminated in leadership roles in the cybersecurity community most recently at Zoom and HackerOne.
Roy coached youth soccer and robotics for many years, enjoyed extensive travel - including several trips made after his diagnosis to create memories with family and friends - and was a devoted fan of Minnesota sports. Throughout his illness he worked to promote fundraising for ALS; in lieu of flowers, the family asks that tributes be made to ALS.org or IamALS.org.
A Celebration of Roy's life will be held July 25th, 2026 at 2 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Minnetonka, located at 2030 Wayzata Blvd E in Wayzata.
