White Bear Lake Township, Minnesota - Richard Manthey, 89, beloved husband of Mary Ann Leukuma, father of Mark Manthey and Claire Stokes, and grandfather of Rachel Haukkala, slipped peacefully away on November 13, 2025. Survived by sister Velma, her husband Richard Matteson, and their two sons, Tom and Andy. Dick was a long-time employee of the State of Minnesota, Department of Administration where his job involved contact with many state departments. His activities were in 2018 restricted by a stroke and mild dementia in his last years.
Dick was born in Rhinelander, Wisconsin to Rosa and Reinhold Manthey. He graduated from there in 1954 and immediately enlisted in the Air Force. After his military service, he moved to Minneapolis, MN where he attended the University of Minnesota. There he studied political science, found like-minded people and was actively involved in the political and social issues of the day.
Upon graduation, Dick was employed by the State of Minnesota. He married Marie whom he divorced in 1971, then met and married Mary Ann in 1977. He is missed.
