Kate and family, Mark and I are so sorry for your loss. We remember his time with BAC sports and crossing paths with our children's sport activities. I loved hearing about your adventures in Calgary, too! I love the picture from the Peace Corps!

Dear Kate and family, I send my deepest condolences to you all. I am saddened to hear this news. One of the reasons that I joined Barr was because Rich gave me thoughtful answers during my interview and didn't just tell me what I wanted to hear. In many ways, that sums up Rich; thoughtful, authentic and honest to the core. And he enjoyed a good laugh and cared deeply for people. What was clear was how much he treasured his family. May you find comfort in your memories and love that you shared.

Richard was a longtime volunteer for the Minnesota State Science & Engineering Fair. He served as a judge for this annual event, which entailed listening to students present about their STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) research projects, asking them thoughtful questions, and providing valuable feedback and encouragement. He also volunteered for our Science Bowl program, which celebrates STEM learning and knowledge for Minnesota middle and high school students. Through these events, he made a huge impact on many Minnesota students pursuing STEM education and research. We are so grateful to Richard for his dedication to STEM students in Minnesota. Plant a tree: How does it work

When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.

An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.

After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.

Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Tree Planting Timeline

Orders placed in:

January - May

Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.

June - December

Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
