Edina - Davies, Richard H. of Edina passed away of natural causes March 14 at the age of 78. Preceded in death by his parents Evelyn Ohlund Davies and Everett Davies. Survived by wife of 52 years, Carolyn L Davies, 4 siblings: John, Steve (April), Sue, and Dwight and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Ric was a proud Edina resident from the age of 2. Graduating from Edina High in 1964, he attended 1 1/2 years of business classes at the U of M, then joined the family insurance and civil bond business in 1966. At that time, it was Davies and Davies Insurance, and Ric was part of the 3rd generation to work in downtown Mpls. It was his grandmother who established the company in 1916. Ric was active there and later became president and owner of its successor, Patrick J Thomas Agency, until he retired in 2019. When he wasn't working, Ric enjoyed SCUBA trips to places like Truk Lagoon and literally traveled around the world. He volunteered with the Colonial Job Transition Support Group for 20 yrs, was part of the Selective Svc System for 20 yrs, was politically involved in his precinct and Senate Dist: a Full Committee member for many yrs and a top 10 fund raiser for 5 yrs. A caring people-person he enjoyed teaching people how to invest and handle their money. He was called the neighborhood Mayor for occupying his front yard perch where he greeted everyone and gave treats to all the dogs. There will be a Celebration of Life May 29 4-7PM at Olympic Hills Golf Club at 10625 Mt Curve Rd in Eden Prairie. He is to be interred at Lakewood.
