Phyllis Clark Obituary

St. Louis Park - Clark, Phyllis of St. Louis Park, formerly of Wayzata. Born August 26, 1929, in Minneapolis, died on May 4, 2025, at age 95 in St. Louis Park. Daughter of Ann and John Tanchin, she was the third of eight children. She grew up during the Great Depression in Minneapolis and had to quit school in 8th grade to help raise her siblings. She later studied and acquired education skills on her own. She was a hard-working, loving and devoted housewife and mother who selflessly cared for her family.

She was a member of Wayzata Community Church, an avid gardener, and talented member of the Lafayette Club golf league. She loved to sing, solve crossword puzzles, ice skate, needlepoint, embroider and create intricate collages for people's special occasions. She was kind and loving and a great support to all who knew her.

She enjoyed delivering meals for homebound people with Meals on Wheels. She also volunteered at Hillcrest Nursing Home, bringing her children along to teach them the importance of giving of themselves. In her younger years she worked at a banking firm where she met her husband, Gerald. They got married in 1959, and their love brought Jerry Jr. and Patricia into the world. Phyllis loved beauty in all its forms from the way she tended to her garden, decorated the family home, created beautiful crafts for loved ones, to the beautiful way she always dressed.

Preceded in death by parents, Ann and John Tanchin; loving husband of 45 years Gerald; brothers, Jimmy, Ronnie, and Wally; sisters, Doris, Vivian, and Gloria. Survived by son Jerry Clark Jr. and daughter Patricia (Jimmy) Clark-Pichner of Apple Valley, brother Gordon and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Phyllis's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on July 23, 2025, at Wayzata Community Church with Visitation one hour prior to service. Luncheon to follow at church. Graveside service at 10:30 a.m. at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on July 24, 2025. Memorials preferred to Patti for Voices of the Roses to beautify and maintain the Lyndale Park Rose Gardens.
