Edina - 89, of Edina, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on December 27th, 2025, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Philip was born on July 24th, 1936, to Robert and Marion Black in Minneapolis, MN. He was the youngest of four children, which is how he got his nickname as the "Bud" of the family. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1954, then proudly served in the US Marine Corps before attending the University of Minnesota. Bud loved to travel and participate in many sports, including Handball and Racquetball at St. Anthony Athletic Club, where he was a member for many years. He was a hardworking entrepreneur who owned and operated his own commercial cleaning business.
He married the love of his life, Kathleen Barrett, on January 23, 1960, and together they raised four children in Edina, MN: Teresa (Jeff) Lawson, Susan (Ron) Weiler, Steven (Lisa) Black, and Jennifer (Rick) Alm. His children, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many loving relatives and friends will greatly miss his sharp wit and sense of humor.
A celebration of life and private interment at Ft Snelling National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
Bud was also a lover of all animals. Memorials are preferred to the Animal Humane Society in Minneapolis, where he loved to volunteer as Santa Claus and take Christmas pictures with families and their pets.www.Washburn-McReavy.com
