Peter Bruce Levine Obituary

Mpls - Peter Bruce Levine, of Minneapolis, died quietly on Thursday May 28, 2026. He grew up in Sheboygan WI, the youngest of four brothers. He was a mischievous child performing harmless neighborhood pranks with his gang the bone crushers. Peter retired from the bone crushers and earned a B.S degree at UW-Madison, an M.S degree in Public Health and Hospital Administration at UCLA, and a Ph.D. in Political Philosophy at the U of CO. Peter's career reflected the breadth of his interests, his desire to make a meaningful contribution, and his affinity for trying new things. He started his professional career in the Indian Public Health Service serving as the director of a hospital on the Duck Valley Indian reservation (Nevada) where he met his first wife Donna. He helped develop the Public Health graduate program at the U of CO medical school in Denver. He worked on public health policy for the Dept. for HEW in Washington DC. He was then recruited to work in MN as the director of the nonpartisan research department at the MN state legislature. He left there to open the Coat Company a chain of stores with his brother Gordon. He retired after serving as president of Nation's Carelink a company doing assessments for long term care insurance companies. He raised two daughters with Donna and managed to also nurture hobbies in photography, ceramics, projects with tools, and the racket sports squash and tennis. More recently, he found joy in entertaining his grandchildren and doling out pearls of wisdom. He is preceded in death by Donna; his parents, Joe and Rose; his three older brothers, Ted, Mike, and Gordon; and what felt to him like an endless number of dear friends. He left behind his wife, Trish la Plante; daughters, Hannah (Shaina Weiss) and Jessica (Dan Satran); and seven grandchildren whom he adored and was infinitely proud of:, Zivia (28), Joseph (26), Adina (21), Sarah (19), Rachel (17), Ezra (19) and Nalah (17). He also cared deeply for Yaakov, Zelda, Shimshy, and Jaleesa. They all called him Bokki. Donna's brother, Jay and his wife, Doke were lifelong friends. Many of his friends and family considered him a role model, mentor, and/or father figure. He will be dearly missed. A memorial service to honor his life will be held at 3 pm, THURSDAY, June 4, 2026 at TEMPLE ISRAEL, 2323 Fremont Ave. S., Minneapolis, also available via Zoom at www.hodroffs.com/PeterLevine
