Peter Charles Goldberg Obituary
St. Paul - Peter Charles Goldberg, age 63, of St. Paul, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026.
Peter was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and grew up in South Minneapolis. He began his education at Field School and was a member of the first third-grade class to attend Hale School following the historic desegregation pairing of Field and Hale in 1971. He later attended Armitage School and graduated from Marshall University High School.
Peter's life and accomplishments were a testament to his courage, resilience, and indomitable spirit. Living with several disabilities, he was determined to achieve academic, social, and personal independence. His early-life journey was one inspiration behind Pacer Center – one of the nation's first nonprofit parent advocacy and training organizations for families of children with disabilities—which was co founded by Peter's mother in 1976. Peter took immense pride in this legacy and was famously fond of declaring, "PACER is because of me."
Though he frequently encountered obstacles, setbacks, and the interference of others, Peter remained steadfast to live life on his own terms. His outgoing and magnetic personality found a natural home in the performing arts. He spent several years as an actor with Interact Center for the Performing Arts, appearing in numerous productions. His work with Interact led to a leading role in Mixed Blood Theatre's 2002 production of The Boys Next Door, a poignant comedy following the lives of adults with developmental disabilities living in a group home.
Peter also pursued his lifelong love of music with persistence and passion. He was a lead singer for Rock of Ages, a Twin Cities rock-and-roll band for musicians with disabilities supported by Lifeworks Services. In addition, Peter enjoyed a notable audition run with The X Factor and was invited to attend a show taping in Los Angeles.
A devoted fan of Minnesota sports, Peter cherished Gopher basketball at Williams Arena and Twins games at Met Stadium, Metrodome, and Target Field. A voracious bobblehead collector, he was often first in line on giveaway days. One of his treasured memories was attending game 7 of the '91 World Series with his father, then joining his dad, brother, and thousands of others in celebrating the Twins' victory in the streets of Minneapolis.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Marjorie Goldberg. He is survived by his brother, Daniel; sister-in-law, Carrie; nephews Duncan Goldberg and Elliot Flack; and niece Amelia Flack.
A memorial service will be held this summer. Those wishing to honor Peter's memory may consider a donation to one of the following:
