Mpls, MN - Peter Roberts Carlson passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026, having just given his loved ones a chance to say goodbye. He was born on December 31,1933, in Aurora, IL and was raised by his mother on the south side of Chicago who dedicated her life to giving him opportunities to succeed.

He was a proud student at the University of Chicago Laboratory School for high school and if asked, always remarked about the rigor of that educational experience. He attended Pomona College where he was an All-American basketball and baseball player and was inducted into the Pomona Athletic Hall of Fame for both sports. He earned his MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business and spent several years in San Francisco, where he married and began raising a family. A career opportunity later brought the family to Peoria, Illinois, where two more children were born. The family then settled in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, where their youngest child was born and where he and Cari happily raised their four children. After a chance meeting at his 40th class reunion in Chicago, Peter packed his belongings and moved back to San Francisco where he lived for many years until a final move to Minneapolis in 2024 to be closer to family.

He loved his career in various finance roles, was a hard worker, and dedicated himself to his jobs. He also had a lifelong love for athletics, participating in many sports and excelling in most of them. Sports were not just a pastime but a constant thread throughout his life. He embraced physical challenges with pride, from the Dipsea Race to the Milwaukee Marathon and competing in "old guy" baseball and basketball leagues, always pushing himself and inspiring others by example. He combined love of watching sports, running and family when the whole family ran together in the Milwaukee Brewers Fun Run to County Stadium.

Peter wasn't really a cook, but he was very proud of his deviled eggs, artichoke dip and barbeque chicken. Family holidays always included his famous artichoke dip and every New Year's Eve/birthday celebration included fondue. Although, he could have survived on cheddar cheese and Triscuits alone.

Peter spent his last two years in Minneapolis happily playing Yahtzee with his kids, correcting their math when needed.

As Peter would say, this journey of life is "unbelievable!

He is survived by his wife Linda Swanson of Larkspur, CA, his previous wife Cari and their four children Cathy (Bob), Linda (Eric), Wendy, and Chris (Cindy), and six grandchildren Audrey, Andy, Bobby, Lily, Etta, and Caroline.

The family is holding a private memorial service.
