Paula Chapman Obituary
Mound, MN - Paula Brown Chapman lost her courageous battle with lobular breast cancer on August 16, 2024. Paula was the daughter of George and Phyllis (Landau) Brown, born on April 11, 1965 in Kansas City, MO. She married Shannon Chapman on December 9, 2000 at a beautiful ceremony overlooking the vineyards of Hans Fahden winery in Calistoga, CA. They spent the first part of their lives together living in San Rafael, CA, where they raised their son Ethan. In 2013, they moved back to Minnetonka, MN when Shannon convinced Paula that the Minnesota schools were wonderful and the winters weren't all that bad. That winter turned out to be one of the coldest on record, but she took it in stride and didn't hold it against him.
Paula grew up with her parents and two older brothers in Castle Rock, CO and attended the University of Colorado Boulder where she earned her degree in journalism and was a sorority member and Membership Chair of Alpha Gamma Delta. She then moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where she began working in the financial services sector. Her career went on to include work for PLC, Wells Fargo, MFS Investment Management, TCF Investment Service, Huntington Financial Advisors and US Bank.
Paula was an avid writer and an active member of the group Write on Mamas, and publicly presented a number of her short stories at their events. She was a talented amateur genealogist and enjoyed sharing family stories and playing cards, especially pinochle. She volunteered for the cancer survivorship charity, Firefly Sisterhood, and was a community educator for the Alzheimer's Association. She loved baseball, cars, baking and spending time laughing with her loved ones.
Paula was survived in death by Shannon, until his unexpected and accidental passing on October 25, 2024.
Paula was preceded in death by her parents, George and Phyllis (Landau) Brown, and a number of aunts and uncles (Darrell and Mary Landau, Marjorie "Marj" Krisman, and Phil and Margaret "Markie" Brown). Paula is survived by her son, Ethan of Minneapolis, MN; brothers Kurt Brown of Loveland, CO and Eric (Peggy) Brown of Weston, FL; nieces Erica (Odeviz) Soto of Acton, MA, Stephanie Brown of Washington, DC, and Corinne (Noah Greenwald) Brown of Aurora, CO; and great nephews Felix, Bruno and Hugo Soto and Beau Greenwald. She also leaves behind cousins Julia (John) Richards of Walnut Creek, CA, Monica (Brian) Landau Bluff of Huntington Beach, CA, Daniel (Laura) Brown of Lake Oswego, OR, and Jodi (Steve) Caicco of Vancouver, WA.
A joint celebration of life for Paula and Shannon Chapman will be held in Minneapolis on June 8, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send donations in memory of Paula & Shannon Chapman to The Lobular Breast Cancer Alliance or The Alzheimer's Association.
