St Paul, MN - Norman J. Segal died after a brief illness at age 96, surrounded by loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Samuel Segal; sister Annette; and grandson, Isaac Benjamin Segal. Survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Janice D. Segal; children Robert (Lucinda Cummings) Segal, Debi (Mike) Wiese, Patricia (Mike) Freeman, Anne (Joel) Silverman; grandchildren Claire (Jack) Rolfes, Charlie (Kerry Gaynor) Wiese, Samuel (Megan Smith) Segal, Maya and Ethan Silverman, Joey Freeman; many stepchildren and step grandchildren; and numerous longtime friends.

Norman was born in St. Paul, where he lived most of his life, graduating from Central High School and the University of Minnesota, earning a BA and a Master's Degree in Social Work. After working at BBYO and Jewish Family Services, he became a lifelong psychotherapist, employed by the Minneapolis Clinic of Psychiatry and Neurology, then founding one of the first Rule 29 independent mental health clinics in Minnesota. He specialized in group psychotherapy and was beloved by clients and colleagues.

A lifelong learner, Norman loved music (especially opera), travel, books, being at his home in Sarasota, and time with his children and grandchildren. Politically engaged with a strong sense of justice, he made friends wherever he went, cherishing his many long relationships.
