Coon Rapids - Age 102, of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, passed away on December 22, 2025, at Walker Methodist Plaza Gardens in Anoka, Minnesota. Mildred was born on March 13, 1923, in a small farmhouse near Deadrick, Missouri, along with her twin brother, to Wesley and Mabel (Hawkins) Collins. During World War II, she moved to California with several of her sisters, where she worked in a parachute factory supporting the war effort. She met Harold L. Kinghorn (a Navy pilot) on a blind date, and the two were married six months later in Texas. They shared 77 years of marriage and spent the last 70 years of their life together in the Anoka area. Mildred was an exceptionally talented woman. She played the piano by ear, as she never learned to read music, and at the age of 14 she played for the small country church her family attended. She was also an accomplished oil painter, upholsterer, seamstress, and a wonderful hostess. Mildred was a great mother and deeply loved her family. She always placed the needs of others before her own. She loved her Lord and was a devoted prayer warrior. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Kinghorn, in 2020; her brothers, Marshal Collins (her twin brother, who was killed during World War II when his plane was shot down over Romania) and James Elmer Collins; and her sisters, Opal Prouty, Gladys Haynes, and Wilma Geller. She is survived by her son, Grady (Sandy) Kinghorn; her daughters, JoAnn (Wes) Rediger, Cheryl (Jay) Costas, and Marsha (Kevin) Steiner; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. A private family service will be held at a future date.
