Minnetonka, MN - Michael "Mike" Leo DeWane, age 76, died peacefully at his home on Friday, May 9th, with his loving wife of 51 years, Rita, holding his hand. A strong and principled man, he faced twin diagnoses of cancer and dementia in his final years. Despite his illness, he remained true to his core: proud of his family, quick-witted, and deeply in love with his wife.
His passion for coaching and teaching—after a life spent in service to youth sports—was evident in the lasting lessons of grace and dignity he displayed in his final weeks.
He is predeceased by his sisters, Kathleen and Eileen, and his parents, Dorothy and Leo. He leaves behind his "three boys": Christopher Michael (Kelly), Matthew John (Emily), and Michael Patrick (Madeline), sisters Patty, Colleen, and Sheila, as well as six precocious and energetic grandchildren.
Details regarding a ceremony are forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mike's honor to Minnesota Youth Athletic Services (MYAS) at https://www.myas.org/community-impact-fund, the organization to which he dedicated his life.
