Minnetonka, MN - Mary Ellen Schommer, age 76, of Minnetonka, MN, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, surrounded by loving family and friends near and far.

Mary Ellen was born on May 9, 1948, in St. Paul, to Leo and Patricia Reuter. She grew up in St. Paul and earned a degree in education from the College of St. Catherine. After marrying John Schommer, the couple relocated several times before settling in Minnetonka in 1979, where they raised a growing family and built a strong network of friends and neighbors.

Mary Ellen enjoyed sharing her time and talents with her church and community. Throughout her life, Mary Ellen was deeply loved and cherished by those fortunate enough to know her. Her gifts of baked goods, birthday packets, and Irish blessings brought smiles to countless faces over the years. She had the unique ability to make everyone around her feel welcomed and appreciated.

She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 55 years, John; six adult children and their spouses; 20 grandchildren; two brothers; and many friends, neighbors, caregivers, and extended family whose lives she graced with her kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 22, at 10 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church in Deephaven, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Feed My Starving Children (fmsc.org) or the Father Shea Scholarship Fund for tuition aid at St. Therese Catholic School (https://st-therese.school/donate/).
