Mary Oliver Dorn Obituary

Bloomington - Dorn, Mary Oliver (Loomis) With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mary Oliver Dorn (Loomis) on Friday, July 11, 2025, just days before her 92nd birthday. She is now joyfully reunited with her beloved husband of 67 years, Ernie, who preceded her in death just months ago, along with her parents, Jane and Richard Loomis, and her two brothers, Richard and David Loomis. Mary's remarkable legacy continues through her adoring family: sons David (Katie), Scott (Liz), Mark (Sarah Suby), and Rich (Erika Malvey), and her cherished 16 grandchildren and four great- grandsons. Her unwavering love, support, and infectious laughter will be deeply missed by her family and many friends that she held dear. Born in Ohio, her family moved to La Jolla, California when she was 12. Mary thrived at the Bishops School for Girls. Her passion for learning led her to Stanford University, where she pursued a teaching career and achieved her Masters degree. She could often be found with her nose in a book when attending Ernie's football games. After marrying in 1957, their journey brought them to Minneapolis to raise a family filled with love and warmth. Mary was known for her dry humor and remarkable ability to listen with complete presence. She opened her heart and family home to young single mothers, empowering them to rise and embrace their strengths. Her dedication to nurturing others was epitomized in her role at the Cenacle Retreat Center, where she served as a spiritual director to many and also helped develop one of the first credentialed spiritual director training programs in the country. A Visitation at 9:30 a.m and a 10:30 funeral mass will be held on the Feast of Mary's Assumption, Friday, August 15, at Ascension Church in North Minneapolis, followed by a celebration of life at the Minikahda Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Cristo Rey School in Minneapolis or Ascension Church in Minneapolis are preferred, honoring Mary's commitment to helping others. www.Washburn-McReavy.com Edina Chapel 952-920-3996
