Owatonna, MN - Mark Robert Wheelock, 69, of Owatonna, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at home, of natural causes on April 18, 2026.

Born in Waseca, Minnesota, Mark was proud of his roots growing up on a small dairy farm, where he developed the strong work ethic and deep love of animals that stayed with him throughout his life.

He earned a degree from Austin Vocational-Technical Institute and was appreciated by his employers for being dependable and hardworking. He was, in his own words, the "greatest worker of his generation."

Mark shared his life with his beloved wife, Diane and their four children. He was also a devoted grandfather, happiest when surrounded by those he loved. He treasured time outdoors—pheasant hunting, fishing, and simply being outside—but nothing meant more to him than time spent with his children and grandchildren.

Mark was also a devoted fan of the Minnesota Vikings, rarely seen without his purple and gold. His loyalty to football may have been inherited from his father, but it was firmly cemented in his own childhood after winning a punt, pass, and kick contest—a story he carried with pride.

Those who knew Mark will remember his steady presence, perfectly poached eggs, and understated sense of humor. His elaborate storytelling will be dearly missed. He showed his love not through grand gestures, but through consistency, support, and simply being there for those he loved.

He is survived by his wife, Diane; his children, Luke (Megan); Tessa (Daryl); Mariel; and Michael (Taryn), and several beloved grandchildren. He is survived by siblings Lynette (John), Marianne (Scott), Pamela, Greg (Donnette), and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mavis Wheelock; his in-laws, Myron and MaryAnn Turner; and his brothers, Kent and Patrick.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 24, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Owatonna, followed immediately by a Mass at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Waseca.
