Margaret M. Stokes (Carpenter) Obituary

Maple Grove - Peg was born on January 12, 1945, in Chicago to Marge and Jeff Carpenter. She had two older brothers, George (deceased) and Jack (Alice). After graduating from St. Willibrord High School, she attended Saint Louis University, where she earned her BSRN in 1966. Many of her Billiken friends remained close throughout her life.

While in St. Louis, she met and married her lifelong love, Patrick, in 1968. They moved to Long Island, New York, in 1969 for Patrick's psychiatry training and began their family there. In 1972, they moved to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where Peg formed lasting friendships as an Army wife. Afterward, their growing family moved to Mound, Minnesota, where Patrick completed his training.

In 1976, they settled in New Brighton, Minnesota, where Peg once again built lifelong friendships. In 2000, they moved to Arden Hills, where they remained until 2025, when Peg and Patrick moved to Silver Creek on Main in Maple Grove.

Peg was a fantastic cook and baker and was also skilled at knitting and crocheting. She loved to travel and visited more than 50 countries. Zihuatanejo, Mexico, held a special place in her heart—she traveled there more than 30 times between 1982 and 2016. Along the way, she made dear friends from around the world, including Canada, Mexico, Austria, Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco. She also visited Australia twice, spending time with her adopted family, the Bradys, in Brisbane.

Peg is survived by her beloved husband, Patrick; her children Kelly (Matt) Kofron, Sean, Kevin (Monica), Meghan (Chad) Walstrom, and Katie (Izac) Adams; and 15 grandchildren. She held a particularly special place in her heart for Margaret (Maizie), Henry, and William Adams—affectionately known as "her babies." She is also survived by her niece Kim Dedic and her family, who became an immediate and cherished part of Peg's family; her brother Jack (Alice) Carpenter; and her in-laws Jim and Nancy Stokes of Palos Hills, Illinois.

Visitation will be held at Kozlak-Radulovich Funeral Home in Maple Grove on Friday, May 15 from 5:00–8:00 p.m. A vigil (12:00 p.m.) and Mass of Christian Burial (1:00 p.m.) will take place on Saturday, May 16 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Maple Grove, with a luncheon to follow at Kozlak-Radulovich.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peg's name to Cradle of Hope, where she volunteered for many years.
