Margaret Ellen (McMenamin) Chamberlin Obituary

Margaret Ellen (McMenamin) Chamberlin of Shakopee, MN passed away February 9, 2025 at the age of 84.

Margaret, affectionately known by her sisters as "Muffet", was born on March 23, 1940 in Sycamore, IL to Michael and Ruby McMenamin. She was formerly married to William L. Chamberlin, with whom she had three children: Michael, David, and Kathy.

Mostly raising her children on her own, Margaret exhibited a remarkable resilience, navigating life in the 80's as a single woman struggling to make ends meet and to provide for her family. She always found a way, and never let the trials and tribulations of life harden her heart or dampen her spirit. Once her children were grown, Margaret proceeded to obtain her Bachelor's Degree from Viterbo University at age 47, and ultimately graduated with her Master's Degree in Psychology from the Adler Institute at age 60.

Her career resulted in working with disabled individuals, helping them survive in life and thrive in society, bringing a sense of joy and accomplishment into their lives. Margaret's patience, compassion, and ever-expanding wisdom made her the perfect fit for this position and she truly cared for and loved working for her clients.

An excellent conversationalist, Margaret simply loved people. One could leave her alone for five minutes and come back to find Margaret had four new friends and was deeply engrossed in a conversation with them. Her ideal day involved going out to eat and sitting for hours talking with a friend or family member (or several at once). Some of her other favorite hobbies included reading, going to the arboretum, traveling, and speaking to her friends and family on the phone or via "snail mail" - especially her beloved sisters, Miki and Mari.

Margaret will forever be remembered as a caring, empathetic, intelligent, and simply selfless person. She would give every cent in her wallet and item to her name to the people around her, so her actions and choices were felt even more deeply by her children and grandchildren. She asked for nothing and gave everything in return. She helped raise both of her granddaughters, and was proud to watch them grow up and find their respective happiness, always reminding them that they were strong women and that she loved them. Finally, her beautiful and meaningful life culminated with meeting her three great-granddaughters. No amount of time would have been enough to have Margaret here on earth, but the world was certainly a better place with her in it.

Margaret is preceded in death by her mother, Ruby McMenamin, and her father, Michael McMenamin; former husband, William Chamberlin; and her sister, Michelle "Miki" Stogsdill. She is survived and deeply missed by her three children, Michael Chamberlin of Minneapolis, David Chamberlin of Shakopee, and Kathy (Brent) Chamberlin of Shakopee; sister Mari (Michael) Brown of Park Ridge, IL; granddaughter Hayley Chamberlin of Minneapolis; granddaughter Marissa Chamberlin (Onasis Munro) and their daughters, Josie, Haven, and Sienna; and many family members and friends near and far.
