Margaret Ellen Law (Margi) Obituary

Mound, MN - Margaret Ellen Clausen Law (nee: McNaghten)

Margaret "Margi" Law was born Nov. 24, 1944, in Minneapolis, and passed away peacefully on April 29 at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, surrounded by family.

She is survived by her two daughters: Julie Baeb (Eddie Baeb) and Mimi Gassert (Gregg Gassert); by seven beloved grandchildren: Grace, Olivia and Audrey Baeb; Joey, Maddie, Macy and Jake Gassert; and her three sisters: Mary Jean Fike (David Fike); Nancy Crain (Tim Crain); Martha Rogers (Mike Rogers). Margi is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ada (nee Shaw) McNaghten.

Margi loved Jesus. Over the last few years, as Parkinson's Disease limited her activities, Margi made praying for others her full-time job. She also led Bible studies, attended her grandchildren's activities, kept her pantry stocked with Dove chocolates, and diligently kept up with phone calls to family and friends. She was known for texting with her unique brand of emojis - lots of hearts, smiley-faces, flowers, praying hands, a bunny and a mouse.

Margi graduated from Southwest High School in 1962. She was a life-long learner, receiving her associates degree from the University of Minnesota, her radiology technologist training at St. Barnabas Hospital, and later returned to college for her bachelor's degree in organizational management and communications from Concordia College. During her 51 years as a radiology tech, she added to her skillset with certificates in mammography and computed tomography.

Margi married Donald Clausen in 1969. With Don working as a Navy dentist, they lived in San Diego, Guam, Maryland - where Julie and Mimi were born - and later lived outside Dallas, Texas. Margi returned to Minnesota in 1983, settling in Minnetonka where the girls graduated high school.

In 1998, she moved to Arizona for the warm weather and to be near her lifelong friends, Julie and Larry Johnson. But when the grandbabies started arriving in 2005, Minnesota became Margi's home again. She never turned down a babysitting request, and all seven grandkids will attest that Grandma Margi was the world's greatest babysitter.

Like her mother Ada, she had a knack for painting and sewing. Her three sisters were her dearest friends and biggest support system. Besides her love for the Lord and family, Margi's next favorite thing was an inside joke - the sillier the better. Her laugh was infectious. She cherished gathering with family and friends, to serve others and to be present - fully present - with people in their joys and sorrows. Often, asking if she could pray for them.

A memorial service will be held at Westwood Community Church in Chanhassen on Thursday, May 21, with a visitation at 10:00 am, service at 11:00 am and a luncheon at 12:00 pm. Please note road closures on Highway 41 just north of Highway 5.

In lieu of flowers, the family is collecting donations to plant a memorial tree in Margi's honor at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Contributions may be sent to Minnesota Landscape Arboretum Online Giving (https://tinyurl.com/ArboretumGift). Please note in the comment box, "In memory of Margaret Law," or call the Arboretum at 612-301-3220.
