Aanenson, Margaret of Edina, MN, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2008 from complications due to Alzheimer's disease. Margaret was born in Robbinsdale, MN on August 29, 1916 to Carl and Bolette Holk, both Danish immigrants. Preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Vernon; son, Gary; brother, Erwin Holk. Survived by sons, Eric (Tracy) and Steven (Beverly); grandchildren, Chad (Carmen), Marc (Cindy), Stephanie; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Margaret was a lady in every sense of the word. She brightened every social gathering with her warm and caring disposition. She was a generous and staunch supporter of family and friends who dealt with the ups and downs of life with an equanimity forged from a depression era upbringing. After graduating from Minneapolis West High School in 1935 she attended the University of Minnesota, majoring in architecture. Her academic pursuits were interrupted when she met and married Vernon and devoted herself to helping him advance his business career. In 1951 Vernon and a partner purchased a small local potato chip company called Old Dutch Foods. While Vernon built the business into a major snack food enterprise in the U.S. and Canada, Margaret took on almost complete responsibility for raising, with great patience and love, their three sons. After raising her sons, Margaret became an adventurous world traveler, roaming the world with family and friends from Russia to Bora Bora. She even survived an ill-advised, but ultimately successful, crossing of the rough gulf stream waters from Florida into the Bahamas with her son Steve. She especially enjoyed her trips to Europe, whether to visit friends in Spain or relatives in Denmark. Margaret was also active in civic pursuits, serving stints on the board of directors of both the Minnesota Orchestra and the Minnesota Opera. She and Vernon had a great love of all the arts, and supported them throughout their lives. Her family would like to thank Fran at Geriatric Family Services for organizing her home care for the last ten years as she navigated through the stages of Alzheimer's disease. Very special thanks go to her caregivers who treated her with great patience, sensitivity and respect: Carol, Delores, Kathryn, Marija, Marie, Mary and Stella. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to the Minnesota Orchestra and the Alzheimer's Association. Private services and interment. Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel 952-920-3996
