Marcia Linner Massee Obituary

Edina, Minnesota - Age 85, of Edina, entered God's glory on April 25, 2025. Born July 18, 1939 at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, as would befit the future Svenskarnas Dag Queen, Marcia went on to attend the Northrop Collegiate School for Girls and then Stanford University where she was the Frosh Queen (yes, that was a thing). In addition to being a fabulous mother, math tutor extraordinaire, and grandchild superfan, she was an active member in her community, serving The American Rose Society as a Judge, the Excelsior Elementary PTA, the Church Council at Mount Calvary Lutheran, the Blake School Alumni Board, and the Board of Directors at Pacer Center. Marcia loved bright colors, cashmere, the Nylons, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (which she saw well over 20 times!), the Minnesota Twins, the Virgin Islands and seemed to subsist on a steady diet of key lime pie and danza di limon ice cream from Sebastian Joe's. She loved her pets as well, too many to name them all but among the memorable were her dog Dude (which led to her being called Grandma Dude by her first grandchild, Maggie, and it stuck), and cats Oscar, Cashmere and Romeo. She and her late husband Joe were known for their beautiful and extensive flower gardens and took great joy in giving friends tours at their home in Excelsior. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd Swanson and Melba Kolstad, stepfather Lew Kolstad, brother Paul Swanson and nieces Heather and Kirsten Swanson. She is survived by her stepmother Eileen Swanson; brothers Brad Swanson (Ann), Craig Swanson, Tom Kolstad (Renee), sister Lisa Pederson (Chuck) and sister-in-law Joyce Swanson; children Caroline Massee (Lawrence Paul), Laura Moe, Mike Moe (Bonnie), Mark Moe (Carey) and Aimee Mairs (Rob); grandchildren Maggie Moe, Caroline Hoch (Taylor), Maddy Elliott (Chad), Jack Moe, Cate Moe, Joe Mairs and Will Mairs; and great-grandchild Raegan Hoch. Special thanks to mom's remarkable team of caregivers, especially Anne, Hannah, Laya, Libby and Rabin. A private burial will be followed by a Celebration Open House on May 9th, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00 at Interlachen Country Club in Edina, bright colored attire appreciated. If you care to send a memorial, please consider Pacer Center and Hope Academy.
