Marcia Mae Marks (Suess) Obituary

New Hope, MN - Marcia Mae Marks (Suess), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away September 25, 2025 under hospice care at her home in New Hope at the age of 82.

Marcia was born in Rochester, MN to Clarence and Lucile (Crandall) Suess, and in her early years also lived in Fargo, ND and New Ulm, MN. By the age of 12, her family was living in her father's hometown of Faribault, MN where she graduated from high school in 1960. She later attended cosmetology school and began a career as a hairdresser.

She met Robert Marks through a friend and they married in 1964. They lived in the Minneapolis area and Marcia worked at a salon in Edina, helping to support Robert through college. They eventually made their home in New Hope, Minnesota, where Marcia devoted herself to raising their three daughters, Robin, Kelli and Brenda, as a stay-at-home mother until the early 1980s.

Marcia embraced the "good food" movement of the 1970s and proudly served on the Nutrition Action Committee, working to bring nutritious meals to local schools. She believed in the importance of doing "worthy work", which she found in 1989 at Apple Tree Dental. She had a 25-year career as a care coordinator, scheduling on-site dental care for nursing home residents. Her dedication and compassion touched countless lives.

Marcia loved gardening, collecting rocks, traveling, and found joy in music, poetry, and books. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren—taking them to bookstores, libraries, nature centers, and attending their sporting events and recitals. A longtime member of Michael Servetus Unitarian Church, Marcia served on the Caring Committee and was always the first to volunteer for gardening, yard work, and church cleaning days.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lucile Suess. She is survived by her husband of 61 years Robert, sister Diane Schroder, brother David Suess (Elizabeth), children Robin Marks, Kelli Marks, and Brenda Prosa (Troy), grandchildren Alex Rozelle (Shannon), Evan Rozelle (Mary Schreiner), Clare Voit (Taylor), Sonya Marks, Audrey Swanson, Isaiah and Aaron Prosa, and great-grandchildren Laila and Luke Rozelle.

Memorial service at 3 pm Friday October 10th, with visitation at 2 pm at Merging Waters Unitarian Universalist (co-located at United Church of Christ 1000 Long Lake Rd, New Brighton, MN 55112).

Memorials are welcome to the Parkinson's Foundation, Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, or Apple Tree Dental.
