Lisa Marie Lind

Lisa Marie Lind

Lind, Lisa Marie (Viertel) was born on February 13th, 1969 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin and passed away on March 10th, 2025 (age 56) at her home in Apple Valley, Minnesota.
Preceded in death by her father Vernon Viertel.
Survived by her daughters Nina, Sophia, and Helena Lind, husband Alex Lind, mother Loretta Viertel, sister Rebecca (Viertel) Schmid, nieces and nephews Samuel, Jacob, and Rachel Schmid.
Her hometown, Stevens Point was a small town that provided big town experiences. Lisa was proud of her education, attending the U.S. Air Force Academy where she received a B.S. degree at the University of Kansas for her Master's degree and Military Intelligence school for her career training. In 1994, she married Alexander Lind, whom she had met earlier when they were cadets; he at West Point. Three daughters completed the package over four years. After leaving the Air Force in 1996, Lisa worked in the health and fitness industry on the product side. She then began providing services by becoming a personal trainer, a boxing coach and a fight sports teacher, specializing in training women. An opportunity to move to Minnesota in 2015 made the family think- "Why didn't we do this sooner?" Lisa did not restart her fight sports business, but instead, focused on supporting her teenage daughters in their new schools. In 2017, Lisa was diagnosed with Stage 4 Inflammatory Breast Cancer. The next year was filled with numerous doctor's appointments including chemotherapy, which held the disease at bay. For a few years, Lisa's health was relatively stable, though the cancer would never go in to remission. In 2021, the cancer spread to her brain and lodged in her pituitary gland. Due to the growth of that tumor, Lisa eventually lost sight in her right eye. It progressed to complete loss of her vision in both eyes. Lisa took it as an opportunity, not a challenge, in order to take in the world in a new perspective. The sickness continued to progress into Leptomeningeal disease which is a rare complication of advanced cancer. This adversity allowed her to lean more onto others- an ask Lisa rarely requested due to her strong hearted spirit.
Lisa continued to live life to the fullest despite her medical challenges. Her loved ones would describe her as full of hope and forgiveness. She was a part of numerous communities that cherished both her character and presence. This stood virtue to her favorite saying: "if you think your glass is half empty, get a smaller glass."
Visitation will be held at St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church, 3450 Irving Avenue South, Minneapolis, (TODAY) Wednesday, March 12th at 10:00 am. The Funeral service will begin at 11:00 am with a luncheon following at 12:00 pm.
Her interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Hwy 494 at 34th Avenue South, Bloomington, a location that honors Lisa's military service. The grave site service will be this Friday March 14 and will start at 10:30am sharp, arrive no later than 10:15am. Meet in Assembly area #2.

Plant a tree: How does it work

When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.

An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.

After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.

Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Tree Planting Timeline
