Lincoln B. Shea Obituary

Edina, MN - Shea, Lincoln B. "Linc" died peacefully on June 6, 2025, at the age of 92, surrounded by three generations. He was an optimistic man who used creativity, compassion, and a large helping of humor to make life better for those around him. Raised in Marblehead, MA, Linc loved sports, including sailing, hockey, and skiing, and enrolled in the Massachusetts Maritime Academy at age 16. As a young Navy lieutenant, he traveled the world, later regaling his kids with high-adventure tales. On shore leave, he often chose Arthur Murray Dance Halls over carousing with older shipmates and enjoyed dancing for the rest of his life. As the Lt. Commander of the Twelfth Naval District, Linc was asked to escort Miss California to a social event in San Francisco. Unfortunately for her, his future wife, Fran, also attended the event. Just months later, with a new bride at his side, Linc launched his career selling life insurance. Hearing "no" never rattled him, he was a skilled listener, and, if one of his clients died, he personally hand-delivered the check to loved ones. This professionalism carried him from sales (San Francisco) to management (Boston and Minneapolis) and finally to his own benefits consulting practice (Edina) where he particularly enjoyed helping family businesses navigate tricky issues like compensation and succession planning. As a dad and grandpa ("Bapu"), Linc animated the natural world, creating fabulous tales as the family hiked, camped, fished, swam, boated and canoed from the Redwoods to the Boundary Waters. Linc and Fran were married for 57 years, and spent most of that time in Edina, enjoying good friends in the Desperate Book Club, the 49ers club, softball coaching, neighborhood caroling parties, and more. After Fran died, Linc brought the same positive energy to his ten years in the Friendship Village community, vowing to make at least one person smile every day. And residents and staff responded in kind. Wherever he walked, he was greeted, and, even as his memory faded, he would beam back, "Hi, great to see you!" This June, with the help of N.C. Little Memorial Hospice's angelic nurses, Linc was able, like the monarch butterflies he loved, to fly free. He is survived by daughters, Kat Shea (Steve Hetland), Jen Hedberg (Tom) and Libby Hurley (Jon); grandchildren Brian Hedberg (Katie Wahl), Ty Hetland (Rachel), Ellie Beers (Alex), Joe Hetmann (Paige), Lena Hedberg (Ty Loesch), Sean Hurley (Terah Jackson), and Conor Hurley; and 6 great-grandchildren. A celebration of Linc's life will be held Aug 18, 2025, at the France 44 Event Space (above the store at 4351 France Av S, Minneapolis). We'll gather at 2 pm with a ceremony at 2:30, followed by good conversation and food until 5 pm. Tip: Parking limited, ride sharing encouraged. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Linc's name to N.C. Little Memorial Hospice.
