St. Paul, MN - Judith was born in 1942 to Raymond and Lillian (nee Heidelberger) Kurth in

Dumont, Minnesota. She grew up in Minneapolis with four younger brothers:

Roger, David, Raymond (Kurth-Nelson) and Daniel (Harkess). In 1963 she married

Jeff Hazen; they divorced in 1984. Their children are Brett Christopher and Angela

Marie. Judith's grandchildren are Madeline Marie and Emma Nicole Hill, Griet

Celeste and Bryn Sebastian Hazen. She passed away peacefully on May 6th, 2026.

She is remembered as a loving and caring sister, mother, and grandmother.

Judith earned degrees from Macalester College; University of Minnesota, Mankato;

University of St. Thomas; and Luther Seminary. She also attended Emmanuel

School of Religion in Johnson City, Tennessee for four years, earning ABT status.

Her passion in life was the pursuit and dissemination of knowledge. Judith worked

for St. John's Hospital for ten years, first as a social worker and then as an

administrator. She was ordained in 1996 and served five Lutheran Churches before

retiring in 2008. Her professional goal was always the enlightenment and liberation

of those with difficulties.

Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 29th, 2026 at 11:00am at Como Park Lutheran Church, 1376 Hoyt Avenue West, Saint Paul, MN 55108-2300. A memorial table will be available starting at 10:00am and a luncheon will follow at noon.
