Judith Glachman Brier Obituary
St. Paul - Judith Glachman Brier, age 83, died of brain cancer on August 2, 2026, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Born April 2, 1943, to Evelyn Mindlin and Isadore Glachman in Buffalo, New York, Judith attended the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, majoring in Literature and Theater, and completed her Masters of Arts in English Literature at the University of Minnesota. Having first met in the fourth grade, becoming friends throughout high school and dating in college, she married the love of her life, Arnold Brier, on June 21, 1964. They had two children, Matthew and Jonathan, to whom she devoted heart and soul helping them study music; play hockey, soccer and tennis; grapple with grammar and prose; build lifelong friendships; and find a vocation to make their own. She taught creative writing and English Literature as a high school teacher in Massachusetts, a graduate assistant at the University of Minnesota, and as a programming director for seniors at the Jewish Community Center in St. Paul. Judith served as a member then co-president of the Board of Directors for Jewish Family Services of St. Paul. She co-authored Prairie Perspectives: Our Jewish Veterans Remember World War II, through the Jewish Historical Society of the Upper Midwest. Judith was a writer, poet, teacher, and lover of written and creative performing arts, especially literature, classical music, and theater. She was a fifty-year supporter of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, loved and advocated for the Six Points Theater, and brought together friends and neighbors for monthly Jewish interest gatherings. With close friends, she enthusiastically participated in multiple book clubs in which love of story, critique, family, and mutual support endured for hundreds of volumes and many decades. She brought joy and passion to all she did, with a tireless spirit reaching out to nurture, challenge, instruct, and build community. She lived for vibrant color, music in deep movements, language to bring life to being, and above all, dear friends and family she adored. Judith is survived by her husband, Arnold; sons, Matthew and Jonathan; daughters-in-law, Xuan-Trang Tran-Thien and Emily Dulude; and grandchildren, Ai-Nhan Tran-Thien Brier, Anna Brier, and Elisabeth Brier. She was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn and Isadore. Funeral service 1:00pm WEDNESDAY, August 5th, at MOUNT ZION TEMPLE, 1300 Summit Ave., St. Paul, with Rabbi Esther Adler officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Zion Temple Cemetery, with Shiva to happen later that evening. Memorials or donations may be made to Jewish Family and Children's Service of Minnesota - St. Paul.
