Joseph Peter Klug III (Joe) Obituary

Elk River - Joseph Peter "Joe" Klug III passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply. He was born on February 9, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, to Joseph Jr and Charlotte Klug, who welcomed him into the world and preceded him in death.

Joe grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from De La Salle High School, carrying with him lifelong friendships, a strong sense of loyalty, and a steady work ethic. He spent many years with Yellow Freight, a career he was proud of, before retiring in the early 2000s. Retirement gave Joe more time to do what he loved most—being with family and working with his hands.

In 2003, Joe suffered a stroke that changed his life, but not his spirit. With determination and compassion, he chose to give back by volunteering at Methodist Hospital, where he helped support and encourage other stroke survivors. He also walked in the Step to Inspire stroke awareness and fundraising event, showing his commitment to helping others through their recovery journeys.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Klug, his constant partner and companion. He is also survived by his sisters, Julie (Fred) Faxvog and Char Pfeiffer, and his children: Jennifer Krebs (Noel), Angela Gerou, Katie Malecha (Tom), Jo Ann Golden (Jim), Kim Kaspari (Brian), Joseph Klug IV (Cammy), William Klug (Diane), and Tammy Beskar (Tom).

Nothing made Joe prouder than his family. He was a grandfather to 28 grandchildren and a loving great-grandfather to 11 great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He is also fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

Joe found peace and joy in the outdoors—grouse hunting and fishing in the Kawishiwi area of the Superior National Forest, and spending treasured time at the family cabin, where laughter, stories, and togetherness filled the days. At home, he could often be found working on vehicles, always tinkering, fixing, and teaching by example. He also loved attending Back to the 50s events and Jesse James Days in Northfield, where his appreciation for classic cars, history, and tradition came together.

Above all else, Joe was a family man—steady, dependable, and quietly loving. His presence will be deeply missed, but his influence lives on through the many generations who learned from him, laughed with him, and loved him.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life and luncheon on February 28, 2026, at the Church of St Thomas the Apostle in Corcoran, Minnesota.

Closing Prayer:

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,

and let perpetual light shine upon him.

May he rest in peace.

Amen.
