John L. Weller Obituary

John L. Weller

a loving family man and proud veteran of the United States Navy, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on September 18th, 2024, at home in Richmond, MN. John was born on March 7th, 1933, in Minneapolis in the middle of a family of 12 children, where he lived before moving to Richmond in 1994. John enlisted in the Navy on 8/2/50 and proudly served on the USS Sarsfield and USS Dyess. John returned home and married his "baby doll" Bernie Levos on 10/29/55. He then joined the Minneapolis Fire Department and retired as a decorated firefighter 11/2/1990. He also ran the Weller's Disposal family business. In 1994, John and Bernie made the move to a lake home in Richmond, MN. John is survived by four children, Tom (Wendy), Ken (Cathie), Doug (Deb), and Gail (Kurt) Vinje; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and Sisters Addie (Jack) Hemken, Theresa Ernst Brothers, Eddie (Del), Mike (Sandy), and Billy (Peggy). He was a hero to his country, his community, and his family.

If you knew John, you knew he was a magnet for people. He loved his family and friends more than anything. On the rare occasion no one was at the cabin, you'd see John ripping around on his golf cart, tractor, or in the pickup truck looking for someone to share stories with. John was quite frequently the life of the party. Whether he was telling stories of his Naval adventures or bursting into burning buildings with the MPLS FD to pull someone out, he was always ready to chat. He always wanted to be sure you were having fun or would simply give you a "C'est si bon"!
