Lake Elmo, MN - John Robert Sluss, age 49, of Lake Elmo, MN passed away on April 3, 2025, from kidney failure. A funeral service will be held on April 15, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Transfiguration Catholic Church in Oakdale, MN. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.

John was born June 28, 1975, in St. Paul, MN to Robert and Jeanann (Brambrink) Sluss. He was an active and social kid, growing up in Fridley, MN playing with friends, riding bikes, ice skating, and playing basketball. John and his family visited his grandparents' farm often, where he, his sister and cousins launched rockets in corn fields, built forts, and helped feed chickens and milk cows. Summer weekends, John enjoyed Sullivan Lake with his family, fishing, swimming, and waterskiing. In 1988, John moved with his family to Lake Elmo, MN. He tried a variety of sports when he was young, but focused mostly on soccer and hockey, until high school when he found his love for golf. John graduated from Tartan High School in 1993 and earned an accounting degree from Bemidji State University in 1998, where he was a member of the Omega Phi fraternity. During college, and after graduation, John formed many lifelong friendships. His love of golf, poker tournaments, Golden Tee and playing on softball teams always kept him busy. John was an avid supporter of all MN professional and college sports, spending every Sunday in fall glued to the Vikings game. In 2012, John moved to Austin, TX for a job opportunity, where he met a whole new circle of friends, but always maintained his close ties to friends and family in MN. In Texas, John's favorite way to spend time was with friends shooting pool, golfing, keeping up with MN sports teams and traveling. John will always be remembered for being a loyal friend that everyone could depend on. He was the most outgoing person; talking to anyone he'd meet and turning a stranger into a friend in minutes. He always had a positive outlook and tried to live life to the fullest; a life that was cut too short.

Survivors include his father, Robert Sluss; sister, Jessica (Ken) Haider; nieces, Katelyn and Alyssa Haider; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanann; grandparents, Rueben and Eleanor Brambrink, Leonard Sluss and Dorothy Huehn; aunts, Kathy Brambrink, Paula Brambrink, Deborah Brambrink, Anna Huehn-Shaw and Darlene Hopper.
