Joanne Jean Peterson (Frederickson) Obituary

Alexandria - 90, of Alexandria, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born on February 5, 1936, in Rock Island, Illinois, to Rolland Frederickson and Mildred Tatman Frederickson. Joanne graduated from Braham High School in 1954. She married her high school sweetheart, Jerome Peterson, in 1957. Joanne and Jerome raised their family in Princeton, Minnesota. Joanne worked for the United Power Association of Elk River, while Jerome taught and coached at Princeton High School. Joanne later worked at the Minnesota State Capitol in the office of Attorney General Hubert "Skip" Humphrey.

The cornerstone of Joanne's world was her sixty-year marriage to Jerome, a partnership defined by deep love, devotion, and commitment to their family. Following Jerome's passing in 2018, Joanne navigated the greatest challenge of her life with grace and strength. Her remaining years were a beautiful example of resilience as she continued to pour her love into her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed the gardening at Laurie's farm, the warmth of Arizona at Mary's, and the views of Lake Ida at Jerri's. She also found great joy and peace in her many lifelong passions, including intricate crafts and puzzles.

Joanne was an accomplished woman with many diverse talents and hobbies, and always had a book in her hands. She was a master in the kitchen and a true fashion aficionado who always looked so classy. She loved crafts and would create many different pieces of jewelry and decorations from a variety of objects. She enjoyed sewing everything from making coordinated outfits for her three girls to prize-winning quilts now displayed in many of her family members' homes. She created and maintained a meticulous garden at their Princeton home, featured in the Star Tribune. The highlight included Jerome's roses, English walking paths, cozy gathering spaces, and the bamboo section, which featured a gong that the whole family loved. She loved to travel with Jerome in their camper, often seeking out interesting quilt shops and antiques across the country.

Joanne is survived by her daughters, Laurie (Carl) Herbrandson, Mary (David) Mingo, and Jerri (Jeffrey) McGonigal. Her grandchildren are Lee (Laura) Dicker, Kyle Herbrandson, Matthew (Kerensa) Erickson, Michael (Annika) Erickson, Ryan (Katya) Mingo, Tyler (Annalise) Mingo, Cameron (Jaimie) Mingo, and Michael McGonigal. Her great-grandchildren are Fiona Dicker, Kira Clancy, Madison Mingo, and Gabriel Bergen. She is survived by her brother, Robert (Bonnie) Frederickson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rolland and Mildred; her husband, Jerome; and her brothers, Paul Frederickson and Rolland Frederickson, Jr. There will be a private burial at the Stanchfield Baptist Cemetery in Stanchfield, Minnesota.
