Deephaven, MN - Joan Annette Byers, 94 of Deephaven, Minnesota, passed away on March 29, 2026. She was born on March 15, 1932 in the small town of Anabel, Missouri. Her parents were Marietta Ruth Miller (Fleury) and Merle Johnson Miller. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor, creation of beautiful Afghans, love of the Colorado mountains, her positive outlook, and friendly manner.


She is survived by her sons and their spouses Rob Byers (Jeanne Ferrian) and Ron Byers (Nancy), her grandchildren Benjamin, Emily (Martin Lynch), Katherine, Luke (Lucero), Sean (Leata) and great grandchild Desmond.


Joan spent much of her youth as a member of the Megiddo Mission in Rochester, New York. With her former husband Harold C. Byers, she raised a family in Buffalo, New York, San Jose California, and Boulder, Colorado. She worked for the University of Colorado in Boulder for over 20 years, later retiring to live in Estes Park, Colorado.


Many heartfelt thanks to the amazing staff and caregivers at Deephaven Woods Senior Living and Brighton Hospice who assisted Joan during the last six years of her life.
