Jean Mary Gjetson Obituary

Plymouth - Gjetson, Jean Mary Jean died May 21st, 2025. She was 88 years old. Several years ago, Jean thought about the end of her life and wrote the following: Jean was born to Roy and Alene Huddleston in Decatur, Il on September 10, 1936. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1954. She attended the University of Illinois, Cornell University - New York Hospital School of Nursing, and graduated from Kellogg Community College in 1971 and Western Michigan University in 1981. Jean received a Masters in Public Administration degree with emphasis in health care from Western Michigan in 1984. Jean was a registered Nurse in Michigan. Jean was instrumental in the development of Blue Care Network HMO in Kalamazoo, MI as Medical Services Director from 1982 through 1985. In 1985, she moved to Minneapolis and worked at United Health Care Corporation in director/management positions until her retirement in 1999. Jean was active in community and church services activities in Michigan and Minnesota. Jean and James Amlicke were married from 1958 to 1982. Jean and Bill Gjetson married in Minneapolis, MN on April 25, 1987. Jean 's purpose in life was to be true to herself, a true partner to her husband Bill, and leave a positive legacy to her family, friends, and community. Jean wrote about how she wanted to be remembered: as a woman who was human, imperfect, curious, one who loved life and participated fully, one who was a loving, supportive soul mate to Bill and a caring mother and grandmother; one who, as a person, loved and worshipped God and ended each day thanking the Lord Jesus for the day and asking guidance for the following day. Jean was true to her purpose and everything she wished to be and far, far more. She will be remembered for her bright smile, her positive energy, her kindness and generosity, her service to others, her profound capacity for love, and the love she leaves behind. Jean sought out adventure. She loved to travel. She loved life. One of the last things she said was "Life is great, if you're up for it". Jean was up for it. Jean is survived by her husband, Bill Gjetson, his son Mathew and grandsons Ethan and Will Gjetson, her daughter Beth Amlicke, and two sons and two daughters-in-law, Bruce Amlicke (Celeste), and David Amlicke (Michele) and seven grandchildren: Erin Amlicke, Maire Amlicke, Blake Amlicke, Isabelle Amlicke, Noelle Amlicke, Lucas Amlicke, and Derek Amlicke.
