Janice Farley (Buchanan) Obituary

Bloomington - Age 86, died 2/28/26, after a battle with COPD. Born and raised in Minneapolis, Jan was shaped by her city from a young age and was proud of the house she built in Yardville with her sister in 1949 (visited by President Truman and featured in McCalls), her years on the school newspaper at Marshall High, her career and colleagues at the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, and her circle of lifelong friends. Jan loved rooting for the Twins and Vikings, watching Survivor and game shows, reading mysteries, cooking and eating, trips to Las Vegas, Sunday family dinners, and going up north. Jan was smart with a sharp wit, fiercely independent, tough, and a survivor who overcame hardship with humor and inner strength.

Jan's family was her greatest joy and she enjoyed close relationships with all her grandchildren and their partners. She will be missed by grandsons Tynan Kerr (Rachel Blomgren), and John Kerr (McKenna Lorenz); granddaughters Grace Farley (Ella), Ruth Farley (Cody Layton), Abby Meyer (Greg), and Molly Orner (Jake). Jan is also survived by her children Sue Kerr (Mark), Mike Farley (Sue), and Liz Schoenecker (Paul), and her Chiodo and Farley nieces and nephews. Her final months were graced by the birth of two great-grandchildren Robin Farley and Francine Orner.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband Mike, her brothers Marvin and Mark, her sister Vernice, and too many dear friends.

A special thank you to Stacy, Tina and Ann of Ecumen Hospice who brought Jan great comfort in her final months.
