Janet Lea Shamp Jacobsen Obituary

Maple Grove, MN - Janet Lea (Shamp) Jacobsen was born on August 5, 1949, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and peacefully passed on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2025. She was preceded in death by her mother Vera Coffey (Holmstrom), her father, Erwin Shamp, her brother Richard Shamp, and her beloved husband, Paul. She is deeply missed by her loving daughters, Kate, Rebecca, and Linda, and her grandchildren, Justine, Elizabeth, Eloise, Penelope, and Kingston, and great-grandchild, Liara whose lives were shaped by her devotion, creativity, and enduring love.

Janet was, above all else, a creator. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota and went on to become a gifted medical textile engineer. She held five medical patents and was known for her brilliance, precision, and technical mastery—a true "wizard" in her field. That same ingenuity flowed into her home and heart. She created not only a safe and loving household for her children, but also a tangible legacy of beauty and care: bridal gowns, hundreds of costumes, quilts enough to warm many Minnesota winters, handbags, table linens, Christmas ornaments, and stockings. Each stitch carried her generosity and quiet magic.

Janet's life was also marked by resilience and deep connection. Through adoption and family, she understood love in its many forms and taught those around her to cherish time together, honor tradition, and hold close the people who matter most. Her spirit and the rituals she lovingly created will continue through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.

The grief left by her passing is immense, matched only by the love she gave so freely. Janet's legacy lives on in the warmth of handmade quilts, the strength of family bonds, and the countless lives she touched with her skill, kindness, and creativity.

A memorial service celebrating Janet's life will be held at 12:30pm on January 16, 2026, at Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel in St. Paul.
