James Leonard Ulwelling (Jim)
October 13, 1944 - July 27, 2025
James (Jim) Leonard Ulwelling, 80, passed away in his home in Loveland, CO with family by his side five months after diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Jim was born October 13, 1944 in Austin, MN to Leonard Ulwelling and Alice (Vandegrift) Ulwelling, younger brother to sister Janice (Rugg) Ulwelling. He attended Pacelli High School in Austin before honing his creativity in the industrial arts program at Mankato State University. Here he met the fiery redhead who would become his wife of 26 years— Margaret (Vlaminck) Ulwelling, who passed away of breast cancer in 1998.
Jim's bright blue eyes and wide smile could light up a room. He was devoted to his family, a proud father to his three daughters and "Papa Jim" to his five energetic grandchildren. He taught furniture building and welding at Lino Lakes Corrections until retirement, but his real passion was woodworking and antique furniture refinishing, late-sixties Firebirds, bluegrass music, traveling, and spending cherished time with family and friends.
Preceded in death by wife Margaret and his parents. Survived by daughters, Ali Ulwelling, Lani (Dave) Pettebone, and Mesa (Justin) Roth; his five grandchildren; sister, Janice Rugg; dear lifelong friend Linda Leopold; and a community of beloved friends.
Jim has been a supporter of breast cancer research through the years. Donations in his name may be made to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Flowers may be sent to the Church of St.Timothy in Blaine.
A Celebration of Life will take place 11am Sept 12 at the Church of St.Timothy, visitation will begin 1 hour prior. Burial will take place 1pm Sat at Calvary Cemetery in Austin.

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
