Mukilteo, WA - Hustad, Jack Ferdinand Jack Ferdinand Hustad passed away peacefully February 15, 2025, in Everett, WA. He was born February 23, 1931, to Holger Ferdinand Hustad and Vera Dunlap in Lemmon, SD, and grew up in Helena, MT. He was a Lutheran Pastor for over 65 years and served in congregations and church organizations around the world. Jack is survived by his children, Mikkel (Dorothy Baumgartner), Anne-Lise (Kurt Johnson), and Kristor; grandchildren, Peder (Caroline Loe), Kari, and Annika; and brother Ron (Judy). He was preceded in death by Helen, his wife of 63 years; his parents; and his siblings Wally, Connie, and Lars Peter. At Helena High School, he participated in baseball, basketball, track and drama. During his senior year, he received a state-wide award in Drama & Theatre. In 1953, Jack graduated with a B.A. from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, and enrolled in Luther Theological Seminary in St. Paul, MN. Jack was ordained as a pastor of the American Lutheran Church, first called to serve in Atwater, MN, then as associate pastor of University Lutheran Church of Hope in Minneapolis. There he met the love of his life. Helen Peterson. They were married in 1960 and, after study at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, Jack came back to Luther to earn an M.Th. in 1965. They served congregations in Kansas City, KS, Fergus Falls, MN and Seattle, WA. Jack also served in seven interim ministries in the Seattle area. In 1983, Jack was a delegate to the World Council of Churches in Vancouver, Canada. He and Helen established friendships with church leaders from around the world, which led to international mission work. He was called to the International Church of Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1990. Other mission opportunities followed including Warsaw, Tokyo, Vienna, Bali, Paris, Geneva, Belgium, Seoul, Hamburg, Norway, and Sweden. His international ministry also included teaching at Seminaries in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa, the University of Klaipeda, Lithuania, and Lae, Papua New Guinea. Jack and Helen served in over 20 different ministry sites on four continents. Jack was twice appointed to national offices in the Lutheran Church: as National Director of Evangelism, (ALC), and as National Director of Major Gifts, (ALC). A Memorial Service will be held Monday, June 9th at 4:30 p.m. (visitation 4:00 p.m.) at Normandale Lutheran Church, 6100 Normandale Rd, Edina, MN 55436, followed by a reception. The service will be live-streamed. The Call to ministry was the guiding force in Jack's life. We invite Memorial donations to be sent in his name to an organization close to your heart, and recommend Lutheran World Relief (LWR), or Luther Northwestern Theological Seminary, St. Paul, MN.
