Helga Stuewer Obituary

Helga Stuewer passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025. My dearly loved mother was born on February 20, 1935 and had just celebrated her 90th birthday. Although she had been ill for a while, she always remained pleasant and caring. Born in Vienna, Austria, she married an American student who later became a well-respected professor at the University of Minnesota. She earned a Master's of German at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, while her husband completed his Ph. D. there. She began a long career selling books, antiques, and collectibles ("Helga's ABC") in the mid 1970s and continued until she was nearly 80. Always cheerful, helpful, and kind, she was especially fond of common city animals (including all the unpopular ones such as squirrels, rabbits, and even racoons), not to mention our pet cats. Her husband Roger predeceased her by two years and her daughter Suzanne by 17 years. She is survived her son Marcus, who is left heartbroken by her loss. While she did not have the easiest life, she always maintained an even keel through many and varied serious family health issues, while simultaneously allowing her husband's career to prosper. She was truly the rock upon which our family was built, always working behind the scenes to hold everything together and keep everything moving forward. There are no words that capture how profoundly she will be missed.
