Edina - Helen Ann McCormick died on December 10th, 2025, at the age of 90 in Edina MN. Helen was born in Olivia MN on June 14, 1935. She was preceded in death by her husband John, mother and father, Ella and Henry McNamara, and her 5 siblings, Marie, Jean, Jim, Larry and Dan.

Helen was raised on a farm in Bird Island MN and had many fond memories of life on the farm. She graduated at the top of her class from St. Marys School of Nursing in Minneapolis, and worked as an RN in the operating room. She married John McCormick in June of 1957, and was a homemaker once they had children. Later, she went back to work as an RN in a doctor's office which brought her much meaning, joy, and several lifelong friendships.

Helen was known for her sweetness, her playfulness, her wry sense of humor and her love of making things. She was a gifted seamstress, making the majority of her children's clothing (as well as her daughter's Barbie's clothing!) Later, when she retired her sewing machine, she put her creative energy into making homemade cards which her friends and family members treasured. Helen delighted in her 8 grandchildren and adored each of them. They remember her as being a twinkly eyed cheater at games, always making them her world famous special K bars, and insisting on playing the turkey bowl football game with her teenage grandchildren when she was 80.

She was proud of her Irish heritage, and being a McNamara herself, was a big fan of the song "McNamara's band". Helen's brothers taught her how to swing dance and she passed her love of dancing on to her 5 children. Helen was devout catholic and volunteered at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church helping with funerals for many years.

Helen recently celebrated 55 years of sobriety. Throughout her journey in recovery, she continuously helped and inspired many people by sharing her experience, strength and hope.

She was survived by her 5 children, Colleen (husband Mike Malone) Maureen, Mike, Dan(wife Shari) and Sheila, along with her grandchildren Dan,(wife Anna), Katie, and Tom Malone, Anna and Joe Greer, Johnny (wife Elizabeth), Matthew and Jack McCormick. She was blessed to have met her first great grandchild Henrik (son of Dan and Anna) shortly before her death.

Helen's service will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Mound MN on January 31 at 10am for visitation,11am Mass, followed by a graveside service and lunch at the Church. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Our Lady of the Lake Church School, or The Alzheimers Association.
