Eckland, Harriet Hansen passed peacefully in her sleep December 16 at 97 years old at her residence at Riverview Landing in Otsego, Minnesota. She is now free. Born in 1927 in Superior Wisconsin. She was preceded in her death by the love of her life Bud, her parents, her sister Barbara and her daughter in law Penny. Harriet and Bud grew up in Superior and as they started their family together moved to Minneapolis where Bud taught school and together they had four children who survive them; Paula (Patrick) Donnelly, Ellen (Richard) Puppe, Sara (Keith) O'Brien, Robert Eckland. Grandchildren Pete Donnelly (Sara), Meggan Baade (Mike), Christine Baker (Greg), Beckie Ellinghysen (Justin), Sam Puppe, Elizabeth Pfingsten (Matt), Emelie Jensen (Matt), Anna Anderson (Tyler), Hattie Eckland, Tim Eckland (Rachelle), Laura Aldrich (Andrew), and eighteen great grandchildren. Her faith has always been the foundation to her loving attitude and actions. Her energy was devoted to her church involvement though a lifetime in the choir, leading as in the ALCW, PEO, and in the community through Girl Scout leadership, Parent-Teacher Assn, active in the Civil Rights effort, and President of the Minnesota Epilepsy League She spent years as an elementary school secretary. Harriet was creative and learning in new avenues constantly, crafts, cake decorating, floral arranging. She was admired for her welcoming hospitality and kindness. She loved sharing her home and her Norwegian culture which she was proud of and shared through her baking and hospitality generously. Harriet loved the water sailing, swimming, and her precious cabins at Pike Lake and Lake Amnicon. Even as dementia challenged her she maintained her beautiful loving temperament with all who had the opportunity to meet her. We will miss her and she will be with us forever.
