Gordon Lee Nylen Obituary

Irvine, California - Born in St. Croix Falls, WI, Gordon grew up in Minneapolis, graduated from West High School in 1951 and the University of Minnesota in 1955, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He joined U of M's ROTC program and served as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Reserves for seven years after graduation. Gordon worked his entire career in the computer industry and started at Univac, one of the earliest pioneers in the business. He and family moved to Irvine, CA in 1969 to pursue career opportunities, and lived in Irvine until his death.


Gordon was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was Scoutmaster of a local Troop and supported his children in their endeavors, attending every concert, campout and game he could. He was also a great mentor to his grandson Gram including with trainsets and Lego building. He was an avid MN fisherman, particularly in the Boundary Waters. He loved Mozart and a spirited debate. He will be dearly missed.


Preceded in death by father Albert, mother Edna (nee Johnson), wife of 54 years Patricia (nee Johnston) and sister Betty MacDonald. He is survived by son Gregory Nylen, Irvine, CA, daughter Marianne Nylen, Irvine, CA, grandson Gram Nylen, Irvine, CA, and sister, Barbara Nylen, Minneapolis.
