I didn't know Professor Fisher at all, but I wish I had. I think he would be tickled to know the following. In 1984, I was chatting with my high school boyfriend's father Bob, who was a physics professor at a neighboring university. Bob was a very smart and slyly witty man who loved wordplay. He showed me a poem he had downloaded off the proto-internet, some newsgroup or email list, and it was Professor Fisher's poem, "Out To Pasture." I have remembered it all these years, and it always makes me chuckle. "A placid herd of hit-cows winding up to put us down"--who else could write that? An absolute gem. Side note: my father was also on Guam during WWII. I wonder if they met. I hope so. RIP, Pr...ofessor, and thank you.Read moreRead less

I was a student and colleague of Gordon in New Zealand in the 1960s. He and wife Dawn were charming and erudite people, not easily forgotten.

Condolences, and wishes for peace and happy memories to the entire Fisher family, especially to Andrea, with whom I roomed for 3 amazing weeks in England far too many years ago.

Plant a tree: How does it work

When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.

An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.

After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.

Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Tree Planting Timeline

Orders placed in:

January - May

Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.

June - December

Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
