Gerald Michael Paulsen (Gerry) Obituary

Corcoran, MN - Gerald "Gerry" Michael Paulsen, age 69, of Corcoran, MN passed away peacefully on June 22nd, 2025.

Gerry was born the son of Betty and Herbert Paulsen on September 14th, 1955, in Minneapolis, MN. He grew up in Minnetonka and eventually moved to Corcoran graduating from Buffalo High School. He went on to attend vocational school, where he earned multiple certificates in construction. Residing in Corcoran for the majority of his life, he worked alongside his father on the family farm and worked full time in the construction industry at Layne Minnesota for over 30 years where he was known for his skill, work ethic, and loyalty. This is a testament to his hardworking spirit and dedication to his craft.

Gerry held a deep love for farm life, spending countless hours working the fields alongside his father. His passion for the land and strong work ethic were more than just hobbies—they were a core part of who he was. Whether it was turning the soil or tending to the day's tasks, Gerry found purpose and peace in the rhythm of the farm.

Known for his "gift of gab," Gerry was the life of the party, having a story for every situation and a quick one-liner for every crowd. His laugh was infectious and the sparkle in his eye made you smile, waiting for what he was going to say next. He loved to end each of his Minnesota goodbyes with his catchphrase of the moment, "Drink water, Jesus saves", "Don't take any wooden nickels", "Stay between the ditches" and "Well...that's a deep subject" to name a few. His humor, warmth, strength and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Outside of work, Gerry was an avid outdoorsman and loved shooting clay pigeons, playing horseshoes, 4 wheeling, fishing and especially loved hunting on his land in Parkers Prairie. He was a lifelong fan of Minnesota sports—cheering passionately for the Vikings, Wild and his beloved "Twinkies." His family would spend time together around when the Vikings game was on that Sunday and be treated to the best burgers on the grill. Sometimes he would swing into the local bar to watch whatever game was on while he played pull tabs and he usually would win big.

Gerry was a great cook. He loved making pancakes for his kids when they were growing up. Every get together Gerry would bring his famous baked beans. And every holiday he would treat everyone to his roasts, waking up extra early to make sure it was cooked perfectly. He cherished spending time with his family, particularly his grandsons, who brought endless joy to his life.

He lived his life by a set of strong values: he was always punctual, financially-wise, and carried a grounded, positive attitude that made an impression on everyone he met. He was always there for people - helping however he could. He had many life-long friends which shows just how much he was loved.

There's no one like Gerry. He wasn't just a father—he was a best friend, a role model, and a cornerstone of his family's identity. He didn't just pass on knowledge—he passed on a way of living. He will be deeply and greatly missed. He was loved beyond words, and that love will live on forever.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Martin as well as brothers-in-law Gene Tews and Louie Huber.

He is survived by his children Alicia Nelson, Malinda (Zach) Gahm and Easton Paulsen; his girlfriend Sandy Daniels as well as grandchildren Harrison Gahm, Hamilton Gahm, Hawthorne Gahm and Xavier Nelson; his siblings Deborah (Dennis Zanto) Paulsen, Sharon Tews, Carole Huber, Daniel (Janet) Paulsen, Kathy (Larry) Kerber and Gail (Gary) Beck.

A celebration of life will be held on September 14, 2025—what would have been Gerry's 70th birthday—at Liberty Restaurant & Bar in St. Michael, Minnesota from 12pm-3pm. The family welcomes all who knew Gerry to join in sharing stories, laughter, and memories.
